Picturebooks Berlin is a vibrant and creative community formed in late summer 2024, bringing together an international group of authors and illustrators. Rooted in Berlin, a city known for its rich artistic culture, the group was created to unite creative professionals who are passionate about the world of picturebooks. The collective fosters collaboration, dialogue, and innovation, offering spaces for creators to explore and celebrate picturebooks as an art form and a powerful medium of storytelling.
With members from different creative fields and countries, Picturebooks Berlin offers a unique space to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and promote picturebooks as a powerful tool to engage readers of all ages. The group’s activities aim to highlight picturebooks not only as literary works but also as a dynamic visual art form capable of transcending language and cultural barriers.

The mission of Picturebooks Berlin is to promote picturebooks as an essential and meaningful medium of artistic expression and storytelling. The collective strives to raise awareness of the unique qualities of picturebooks and to highlight their potential to captivate and inspire. Through their collaborative efforts, Picturebooks Berlin aims to provide a supportive environment for writers and illustrators, helping to shape the future of the genre.
Currently, Picturebooks Berlin organizes both informal and formal activities such as workshops, talks, and gatherings. The group meets once a month for an informal after-work meetup, where members bring picturebooks to share. It also hosts more structured events and is open to collaborations with external organizations.
Within the group, we encourage members to initiate and develop activities together. Everything is organized by us, for us, with the goal of strengthening our community and supporting each member’s professional growth.
We are committed to inclusion and do not tolerate any form of discrimination — racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or other exclusionary behavior.
We value collaboration and contribution: from helping organize events to sharing knowledge and resources.
We welcome all languages and cultures, celebrating the richness they bring to picturebooks storytelling.
